About 20 years ago,I had a mare that died when the foal was 2 days old. I took the foal to a farm across from Balmoral( Horst Petersen's).. I had to bottle feed him. The bond I had with this unfortunate animal was very strong.
I would open his stall door and he would follow me out to his paddock. It was amazing. No halter. No lead shank. Just the trust he had in me.
Once in the paddock he wanted to play with me. He would rub his head on me. He would get on his hind legs. But,he was not going to hurt me. If i would take off running, he would run off after me. If the guy I had ,at the farm, led him out to the paddock, This collt would be looking for me. As I pulled up in my pickup, This little guy would be hollering at me.
Unfortunately, This horse never made it to the races. He trained down to 2: 07, but was pretty rough. I adopted him out.
He taught me more about individual personalities than all the other horses I've had combined.
Oh yeah, I named him Mr. Jinx.. I figured his mom died right after having him. What more can go wrong?
